Using Social Marketing with Social Media

The second hybrid event of 2024 for the Chesapeake Chapter was held in Rockville, Maryland on June 13, 2024. The chapter continues to focus on “micro-events” in 2024 – events planned in as many regions of their geographical distribution as possible, as often as possible, in order to make it easier for members to attend in-person events and connect with colleagues. Opening up these events to a hybrid format has allowed members from all around the region (and some from other chapters as well) to join in on the discussion.

Hosted by Clark Communications at their offices in Rockville, MD – with a hybrid option - this interactive workshop for the Chesapeake Chapter featured Necole Jackson and Jennifer Waldow, Marketing and Communications Specialists with Clark Communications and Jonathan Nevius, Marketing Coordinator with Wells + Associates. As TDM professionals, social marketing and social media can feel “out of our comfort zone.” This workshop was designed to help break down how to use data to pinpoint your target audience, what the types of platforms and social media campaigns are and what they can do, and how to create a message that promotes behavior change.

The workshop had twenty members in attendance in -person, including members from Maryland, Roanoke, Charlottesville, and the Shenandoah Valley, and eighteen ACT members from the Chesapeake, SEACT, Midwest, and Mid-Atlantic chapters. Despite some minor technical issues with the hybrid portion, our presenters created truly interactive engagement for all attendees. Clark Communications, a Chesapeake Chapter member, was generous enough to offer not only the space for the hybrid meeting, but lunch and networking time for in-person attendees.

Based on feedback from our members, the Chesapeake Chapter will continue to find opportunities for hybrid events as well as in-person events in the coming year.
