Executive Director's Report November 2024

General News,

As we reflect on the recent election and prepare for the upcoming change in administration, ACT stands ready to champion TDM as a key strategy to boost economic activity, improve access to jobs, and create efficiencies within our transportation systems. Reduced congestion, more time with family, and lower transportation costs are benefits that resonate with all Americans and ACT is committed to working closely with policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders to elevate TDM’s role in achieving these outcomes.

Last week, it was so energizing to gather in Charlotte for our TDM Forum.  With over 200 leaders, innovators, doers, and advocates coming together; the two days were filled with fantastic discussions and new ideas.

Before the event, ACT’s Board of Directors convened for its final in-person meeting of the year. The agenda was packed with significant topics, including an initial review of the organization’s 2025 budget and work plan. The board also focused on advancing key initiatives within the 2020-2025 Strategic Plan, considered a proposal from the Professional Development Committee to launch a new awards program recognizing leaders in the TDM field, and explored ideas for enhancing the organization’s election procedures. Additionally, the board adopted updated chapter policies, providing clearer guidance on their formation and operations. These updated policies marked the culmination of a multi-year effort, supported by the contributions of numerous volunteers from across the membership.

Appointments to ACT’s Committees for the 2025-26 term were also approved by the board.  On behalf of the board and staff, I want to thank the more than 40 individuals who stepped up to volunteer their time, energy, and expertise to serve. Your dedication and contributions are essential to advancing our mission, strengthening our community, and driving the success of our initiatives.

During the TDM Forum, we also had the great pleasure of congratulating our 2024 ImpACT! Leadership class.  I invite all of you to check out this quick video highlighting their year.  To close out the event, we honored our 2024 recipients of ACT’s TDM Excellence Awards. Congratulations to this year’s recipients: Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority, Central Pines Regional Council, Stanford Medicine, Tripspark Technologies, and the University of Buffalo.

As we head into the final weeks of the year, I invite all members to reach out to me and share your thoughts on ACT, the future of TDM, or to simply introduce yourself.

Best,
David
