Cascade Chapter - Chapter Member Recognition Awards 2024

General News,
Congratulations to the recipients of the 2024 Cascade Chapter Member Recognition Awards!

Sylvia Crum, WSDOT
Chapter Member of the Year

The SEACT Chapter's loss became the Cascade Chapter's gain when Sylvia Crum moved to the Pacific Northwest almost two years ago. She quickly involved herself in Cascade Chapter activities, starting with her contributions to the 2023 ACT International Conference Committee, including leading the Host Subcommittee, followed by taking on the role of Events Chair for the Cascade Chapter. Most notably, her uninhibited friendliness and zeal quickly made her a beloved figure among peers. While we miss Sylvia's presence in the Cascade Chapter, we remain hopeful that she might rejoin us in the future.

David Agosti, Simon Fraser University
Council Member of the Year

David has been a member of ACT for only a few years, but has stepped up and been an active member of ACT’s Higher Education Council, currently serving as the Council Chair. As one of the few university-based members in Canada, he brings a different perspective, especially on topics such as sustainability, decarbonization and emissions reduction monitoring. The Cascade Chapter greatly appreciates David’s leadership contributions to ACT national Councils and furthering the discussion on TDM in the higher education space.

Veronica Jarvis, Thurston Regional Planning Council
Local TDM Advocate of the Year

Veronica is a tireless advocate for TDM who never misses out on an opportunity to make connections, promote sustainable transportation, and further TDM locally and nationwide. In the last year, Veronica has continued her efforts to advocate for TDM full speed with her role on the ACT Public Policy Committee, she is an at-large director for the ACT Board of Directors and participated in the 2023 D.C. Fly-In, meeting with political leaders and subject matter experts on TDM topics and policies, and hosted a panel titled “Utilizing Federal Programs to Implement TDM at the State Level.”

Intercity Transit
Organizational Member of the Year

Intercity Transit is a mid-sized transit agency based in Thurston County, WA that employs ~250 employees, with 3-4 of them as ACT members. They are spending a majority of their training budget on the International Conference. All members have expressed dedication to furthering their understanding and expertise of TDM. At the Conference, members expressed interest in attending different segments and sharing lessons learned to grow their vanpool program and better serve their community. Magic is a member of five councils and is an ImpACT 2023 graduate, and Kyle is a Vanpool Council leader.

Mary Anderson, Whatcom Transit Authority
Promoter of the Year

Following the offering by ACT International of complimentary student memberships, Mary Anderson began engaging students from Western Washington University in Bellingham. As of May 2024, eleven of the twenty student members in the Cascade Chapter were from Western Washington University. Thank you, Mary, for sharing your passion for TDM with the next generation of TDM professionals!
