Taking Action to Decarbonize the Transportation Sector
Today, ACT was pleased to hold a press conference with Congressman Jake Auchincloss (MA-04) and Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) in Washington D.C. focusing on decarbonizing and improving the American commute. The event featured discussions of TDM's benefits, effective strategies, and a call for Congress to codify TDM's definition.
During the press conference, the association announced a call for immediate action from Congress, USDOT, and states in a new statement, Decarbonizing the Transportation Sector: How Transportation Demand Management Can Untangle the Nation's Mobility Crisis Through Efficiency
During the event, which you can watch on ACT's Facebook, Congressman Auchincloss also announced the upcoming introduction of legislation to return the deductibility of commuter transportation benefits. If adopted, it would promote access to affordable transportation and encourage employers to offer transit subsidies.
Transportation is currently the sector with the highest greenhouse gas emissions, but TDM can address this problem. Enacting TDM strategies at the federal and state levels will reduce emissions, increase air quality, and lower congestion levels - all of which contribute to a more sustainable system. ACT remains committed to combatting climate change through TDM for a brighter future for all.
