Executive Director's Report October 2024
As we begin the final quarter of the year, I want to thank each of you for your continued dedication to improving transportation options and mobility within your communities and work sites through innovative and effective TDM strategies. There is a lot going on within the association and I’d like to share several important updates with you.
Before I get to the news, I know that hundreds of you reading this newsletter are not currently members of ACT. Perhaps you were in the past and you let your membership expire or maybe you have thought about it but haven’t gotten around to actually joining; either way, I am asking you to join our association of 1,700+ individuals and organizations. The value you receive from the connections, information, advocacy, and professional development is significantly greater than the annual dues. I invite you to learn more here.
I probably don’t have to mention it, but the upcoming presidential election is a critical moment for shaping the future of our country, and your vote can make a real difference. Don't miss this chance to have your voice heard—be sure to cast your ballot (via mail or in person) and help guide the direction of the nation. Every vote counts, and your participation is essential to our democracy!
While it may not be President of the United States or even a Cabinet position, ACT is accepting statements of interest for positions on our National Board Committees. Serving on a committee offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth of the association, empower our membership, and to network with fellow professionals dedicated to advancing TDM. We welcome fresh perspectives and encourage all members, regardless of experience level, to consider volunteering their time and expertise. Statements of Interest must be submitted by tomorrow, October 25. Whether you’re passionate about policy, membership development, or event planning, there’s a place for you!
We’re just a few weeks away from the TDM Forum, which will be held November 12-13 in Charlotte! This event has been completely transformed to offer track-based learning about transportation policies, equity, new mobility options, and key planning issues facing our communities. Each day, you’ll choose between two immersive tracks, each offering a variety of session formats designed to dive deep into crucial topics. Track options include: Creating the TDM City, The Great Micromobility Experiment, Ensuring TDM for Everyone, and Filling the Gaps. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with leaders in the industry, share insights, and learn from one another. It promises to be a transformative event for all who attend.
We’re excited to announce that ACT is preparing to release a new publication providing a year in review of TDM’s impact, highlighting innovative strategies and successful programs from around the globe. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your work and elevate the visibility of your TDM efforts. Additional information on this opportunity is given below and more details will be sent out in the coming days. Stay tuned!
Looking ahead to 2025, we have some exciting events in store! From the 39th Annual International Conference in New Orleans to our 2025 TDM Forum in Portland; and regional events around the country, we’re planning another year of valuable programming. To help you plan your participation, we are releasing event pricing for 2025 now. Early-bird discounts will be available for those who want to lock in their spots early and save. See below for more details.
Once again, thank you for your commitment to ACT and for being an integral part of our mission to create more sustainable, efficient, and equitable transportation systems. I look forward to seeing many of you at the TDM Forum and encourage you to get involved in future opportunities.
Best regards,
David
