All Aboard: Conference Session Sneak Peek 1
This spotlight is one of three parts that will be published throughout the month of July. Stay tuned for parts two and three!
Welcome to All Aboard. Brought to you by the members of ACT’s DE&I Committee, this content strives to highlight people and their stories in a more holistic approach to show how these contributions move our industry forward.
This month, ACT’s DE&I Committee is giving you a sneak peek on a couple of conference sessions that highlight efforts to integrate DE&I in their projects. Let’s welcome to the blog Senior TDM Program Director & Technical Advisor Danelle Carey of Foursquare ITP. Danelle is part of the panel for the Breaking Barriers to Bike Ownership: Increasing Mobility for Underserved Populations conference session.
What motivates you in your job?
I am driven by the opportunity to bring positive change to the individuals, organizations, and/or communities I serve.
Where should an agency/organization/business start in introducing DEI efforts?
DEI should be at the heart of an agency/organization/business. It shouldn’t be an afterthought but rather a commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable environment. This commitment should permeate all aspects of the work and approach, leading to more effective and inclusive outcomes.
How do you handle challenge or adversity?
With an open mind, I strive to understand the challenge or adversity, distinguishing what I can influence and what is beyond my control. This approach allows me to effectively address the situation by either offering solutions or gaining insights or guidance from an external perspective.
What is the best advice you have heard or given in your career?
Heard: Work is a big part of your life. Find out what you love and get paid for doing it.
Given: Never stop learning. Choose to be happy!
Make sure to catch this Breaking Barriers to Bike Ownership: Increasing Mobility for Underserved Populations conference session to learn the diverse ways to develop and implement a bike program or incentive that is tailored to different community needs.
