Association seeks to improve mobility options through FAA Reauthorization

Letter urges Senate and House negotiators to include a provision that stands to benefit millions of travelers and airline employees

Washington, DC — The Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) recently submitted comments on the FAA Reauthorization bill to Senate and House negotiators working to finalize its language. With the added support of nearly 30 organizations in the transportation and mobility space, ACT is calling for the inclusion of a provision that would lead to a study on the efficacy of Transportation Demand Management (TDM) strategies at airports.

The language aims to improve mobility and transportation access for travelers and airline employees alike. It also provides a pathway to significant reductions in carbon emissions and environmental impact. Millions of individuals stand to benefit if airport planning and construction projects are equipped with the option to include TDM strategies in their development.

“Airports are an essential pillar of our multimodal transportation system, and this provision would improve mobility for those who rely on them,” said David Straus, Association for Commuter Transportation Executive Director. “These transportation hubs tie our nation’s communities and workforce together, and there is opportunity to improve their efficiency. Factoring the deployment of TDM strategies into the planning process is necessary to ensure transportation access meets travelers’ growing needs.”
