The appointment process has been a slow go for the Trump administration. Currently, only the Secretary of Transportation has been confirmed by the Senate, and only two other appointments have been made.
In March, the Senate Commerce Committee cleared Jeffrey Rosen to be the Deputy Secretary of Transportation. Mr. Rosen served as general at USDOT under President George W. Bush. In addition, he served as a senior adviser and counsel at OMB during the Bush Administration. He has since been a partner at the law firm of Kirkland-Ellis. His confirmation now awaits floor time.
Undersecrtary for Policy
Derek Kan, a Lyft general manager based in Los Angeles, will be nominated for DOT undersecretary for policy. Kan was an aide to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and before that, Kan was the Senate Republican Policy Committee’s chief economist. Since 2015, he’s been on the Amtrak board of directors. The undersecretary for policy is considered the number three post at USDOT.
