March 14 – 18, 2016, marked the fourth Telework Week in the Triangle region of North Carolina. GoSmart, the regional TDM provider for the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, focused on best practices. The goals were to encourage the development of new programs with a focus on success, while also reminding established telework programs to take a moment to review the current state of their guidelines and procedures.
Starting a new telework program involves developing policies, training managers, providing orientation to employees, and reviewing technology needs. For employers with mature programs, it is still important to review if the decisions made when teleworking was established at their company are still relevant or if they need updating.
To keep this simple, marketing and education was focused on social media outlets. Two infographics, Best Practices for Teleworkers and 7 Reasons to Consider Telework were created for Telework Week. On our website, www.gosmartnc.org/telework, you can see both infographics as well as the success story from an employer who started a telework program in 2015.
GoSmart is currently developing a more robust toolkit for telework assistance and planning for a employer training event in the fall – just in time to help establish telework programs for continuity of services before winter storms wreak traffic havoc.
