Policy Alert – ACT Opposes Plan to Consolidate MPOs and Urges ACT Members to Comment
August 25, 2016
The Federal Transit Administration and Federal Highway Administration have proposed a rule that would require the consolidation of MPOs and planning authority. While ACT supports this concept, the rule that is being offered takes several giant leaps rather than smart steps. The impact of the proposed rule would essentially set up mega-regions that could possibly minimize the ability of small organizations, like TMAs, to have an impactful voice. Consider this, one possible outcome of this ruling would be the consolidation of planning powers into one organization that spans from Albany east to NYC and down to Philly and Harrisburg. Its money being fought over and diverted to new places.
ACT urges its members to comment by no later than Friday.
