The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced eleven (11) grants as a part of its ‘Mobility on Demand Sandbox’. The funds will go to research, demonstrate, and design projects that merge transit and mobility on demand. In all more than $8 million was awarded. A majority of the grant funding is going to the development of some type of app or passenger information tool that will allow users to better connect transit and mobility on demand. This includes several projects that will attempt some form of payment convergence.
6 of the 11 grants are for app integration (2 of which dedicated to fare payments)
