On June 16th, the Franklin Transit System joined public transportation agencies nationwide in participating in the 11th Annual National Dump the Pump Day sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). All fixed routes, with vehicles conveniently equipped with bike racks, provided free rides for all customers.
Whether in urban, suburban or rural communities, public transportation is a vital resource and a cornerstone of national, regional and local economies. Within the City of Franklin, 64% of riders use the service daily for work commutes. Public transit also financially benefits riders. The latest APTA Transit Savings Report shows that on average, a two-person household downsizing to one car can annually save over $9,000.
“By participating in Dump the Pump Day, we are welcoming new riders and thanking our regular riders who choose to utilize Franklin’s public transit service by offering free rides on all fixed routes”, said Debbie Henry, executive director of The TMA Group which manages the Franklin Transit service. “Franklin Transit provides affordable, reliable, and for many of our city’s residents, a necessary transportation alternative to driving.”
