DOT Announces University Transportation Center Program Grants
December 14, 2016
The US Department of Transportation has announced winners for the University Transportation Center program. The programs include five national centers, seven regional centers (three regional centers have yet to be determined) and twenty tier-once centers, each with specific focus areas. The UTC program awards grants to consortia of universities across the United States. The UTC Program advances the state-of-the-art in transportation research and technology, and develops the next generation of transportation professionals. The Congressionally-mandated program has been in place since 1987 to help address our nation’s ever-growing need for the safe, efficient and environmentally sound movement of people and goods. The program is authorized by the FAST Act and allocates $72.5 million in FY 2017. That number will increase to $77.5 million by FY 2020. ACT congratulates the winners and looks forward to working with them.
