Congress was able to avoid a government shutdown and passed an FY 2017 Omnibus bill that funds the government for the remainder of FY 2017 (ending Sept. 30, 2017). The final legislation ignored most of the Trump budget requests for transportation and fully honored authorization levels of the FAST ACT, below are key highlights of the transportation section.
The legislation includes report language requested by ACT which requires DOT to provide technical assistance to MPOs and State DOTs on working with employers and TMAs. ACT is working with both Congress and USDOT on creating tools that can be used by planners and ACT members in order to expand the capacity and ability of TDM programs to be included in the planning process.
Congressional Appropriators will now turn their attention to FY 2018 which begins in less than five months.
