Association for Commuter Transportation Supports Rep. Garamendi Effort to Link Broadband Technology & Transportation Planning
Consistent with its’ reauthorization proposal, the Association for Commuter Transportation supports the ‘Broadband Infrastructure Development’ amendment sponsored by Representative Garamendi (R-CA). Broadband technology can serve as a highway for commuters who wish to work remotely. Now, more than ever, telework is becoming an important mode of transportation.
Teleworking offers a number of important advantages, besides employee retention and satisfaction, telework helps reduce congestion and improve air quality. Effective telework policies also help keep businesses up and operating in times of emergencies and special events, whether its weather, a natural disaster, or a one-time event, teleworking is a tool that more and more employers are utilizing as a part of a preparedness plan.
The key to effective telework is broadband capabilities. The amendment offered by Representative Garamendi would allow for planning that would expand broadband technologies more effectively and efficiently. ACT encourages all members of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee to support Garamendi Broadband Infrastructure Development’ amendment.
